Weather Station

I have a dedicated computer station in my media center that allows my students to track weather patterns from around the country by typing in a zip code. I constantly have my students check the weather forecast at the beginning of the week. I use this activity to teach them the significance of making predictions and observations to determine if these predictions are correct. A good many of my students love to watch the skies for signs of severe weather and check to see if their forecast matches that of the weather tracker found to the right of this blog.

Kelly,
It sounds like you've got a lot going on in your media center! I think your weather station is a great idea. We do a morning broadcast every day and one of its components is a quick weather forecast. My parapro and I end up telling the broadcast team what the weather is, but perhaps I should be making them find it on their own!

I am going to suggest this to my media specialist. What a great idea!!! We have a morning broadcast also and the children are just told what the weather will be. Using this method, they find out for themselves!!!
