Success with the iPod (Entry 11)

Last week I received four of the new iPod touch that I had ordered from Apple. I was so eager to see how my students would respond to having this technology. I opened them up and chose four of my fifth grade students to use them during their research. They amazed me! They never spoke a word during the entire time they gathered their data. This is going to be one of the best purchases I have made in a long time, and I cannot wait for the others to arrive. The children are begging to come to the media center and do research just so they can have a chance to touch the touch. I only hope that those that come after Christmas will have a camera. These did not, and I was very disappointed by that fact.

My daughter received one for Christmas last year. My husband originally thought it was a waste of money. However, we have been on trips and used the map tool, weather tool, and just recently found out about the Algebra tools and Geography tools that can be upload to it. She loves it and my husband agrees that it is the best purchase that we have ever made.

I've never used one and never really thought of purchasing one for my school. Is the screen big enough for the students to really do research? Is this something they'd use when a computer isn't available? I'm afraid once they got a hold of one, they'd never let go of it!
