On October 14th we had our second face-to-face meeting for my technology class, and I had one of the 'aha' moments in life. One of the ladies in class had purchased a small flip camera and was using it to capture and import video for her digital story. I was familiar with the technology since my colleagues and I had purchased one a couple of years ago for my principal as a baby shower gift. It is such a wonderful piece of technology that fits easily in your hand and allows for the uploading of video with a USB port via a USB arm. This little cameras would be great for students to use in the classroom because they require no cords or software to operate and you can take them anywhere. They can hold about two hours of video without memory cards or cassettes and the price is most definitely within range of most school's budgets at about $150.00 each. These little cameras would be great for recording student programs at PTO functions or classroom presentations, or uploading video from interviews to a webblog. The possibilities are endless. I hope to purchase a couple of these cameras with some of our technology funds in December. So I want to thank my classmates for reminding me of the awesome tool.

Kelly,
I've also heard a lot about these flip cameras from other media specialists in my county. In addition, my mother-in-law has one so we've experimented with hers somewhat. We seem to have quite a few teachers who have to videotape themselves from time to time for either graduate school, or other continuing ed opportunities. I think these flip video cameras would be way easier than having to get the camcorder out every time. And you're right, they're very much within the budget.
Kelly,
I went to my principal today to ask for a flip camera for our media center. She didn't understand what was, but thought it would be a great idea to purchase on and create some interest about through our media center. I personally can't wait to buy one myself.
